# Quickstart

This guide walks you through the minimum setup to get Janine actively engaging buyers on your store. You can fine-tune everything later.

## 1. Set your thresholds

Go to **Settings** in the Freway dashboard. Under **Thresholds**, configure two values:

* **Minimum checkout value**: The lowest cart value Janine will engage on. If a cart is below this, she skips it. A good starting point is \$30-50 depending on your average order value.
* **High-value threshold**: Carts above this get priority. Faster outreach, more follow-ups. Try 2-3x your average order value.

## 2. Enable your channels

Under **Channels** in settings, turn on the channels you want Janine to use. Which channels are available depends on your plan:

| Channel | Starter | Growth | Enterprise |
| -------- | ------- | ------ | ---------- |
| Email | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| SMS | - | Yes | Yes |
| WhatsApp | - | Yes | Yes |
| Voice | - | - | Yes |

Email is the simplest to start with. If you want to send from your own domain instead of Freway's default, see [Email domain setup](/email-domain).

## 3. Configure Janine's voice

Under **Janine AI Settings**, pick a personality that matches your brand:

* **Professional** works well for B2B, luxury, or high-ticket stores.
* **Friendly** is a good default for most DTC brands.
* **Casual** fits streetwear, lifestyle, and younger-skewing brands.
* **Luxury** is more reserved and polished.
* **Playful** leans into humor and emoji.

You can also run the **Analyze Brand Voice** tool, which reads your existing product descriptions and store copy to suggest a voice profile.

## 4. Upload your knowledge base (optional but recommended)

Go to **Knowledge Base** and upload documents that help Janine give accurate answers. Good things to upload:

* Your return and shipping policies
* Frequently asked questions
* Product guides or sizing charts
* Any information your support team commonly references

Janine will pull from these documents when buyers ask questions. Without them, she can still sell based on your product catalog, but she won't be able to answer policy questions.

## 5. Enable the storefront chat widget (Enterprise, optional)

If you're on the Enterprise plan and want Janine available as a live chat on your store, you flip two switches:

1. In your dashboard, go to **Settings → Channels** and turn on **Storefront Chat**.
2. In your Shopify theme editor, find the **Freway Storefront Chat** app block, add it to your theme, and save.

Both are required — the channel toggle lets Janine respond, the theme block shows the button. Buyers can then chat with Janine directly on your store, ask about products, and add items to their cart from the conversation. See [Storefront chat](/storefront-chat) for the full setup.

## You're set

Janine will start engaging buyers on their next checkout. Give it a day or two, then check the [Dashboard](/dashboard-overview) to see how she's doing.

If you're on the Enterprise plan, the [Lifecycle Agent](/lifecycle-overview) will also start handling post-purchase conversations automatically.
