Email domain setup
By default, Janine sends emails from a Freway domain. If you want emails to come from your own domain (e.g., [email protected]), you need to verify your domain.
This is available on the Growth and Enterprise plans.
Why bother?
Emails from your own domain land in inboxes more reliably. They also look more trustworthy to customers. An email from [email protected] is more likely to get opened than one from a third-party domain they don’t recognize.
How to set it up
- Go to Settings > Email Domain in your Freway dashboard.
- Enter the domain you want to send from (e.g.,
yourstore.com). - Freway will generate DNS records you need to add: one SPF record and one DKIM record.
- Add those records to your domain’s DNS settings. Where you do this depends on your domain registrar (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, etc.).
- Come back to Freway and click Verify.
Verification usually takes a few minutes, but DNS propagation can sometimes take up to 48 hours.
Verification status
Once verified, you’ll see a shield badge next to the email channel icon on your dashboard. If verification fails, the settings page will tell you which record is missing or misconfigured.
Troubleshooting
Verification stuck on pending: DNS changes can take time to propagate. Wait an hour and try verifying again.
SPF record conflict: If you already have an SPF record (common if you use Google Workspace or another email service), you need to merge them into a single record. You can’t have two SPF records on the same domain.
DKIM record not found: Double-check that you added the DKIM record to the correct subdomain. It’s typically a ._domainkey subdomain, and the exact value is shown in the Freway settings.
